"Such an inspiring class yesterday! I am so excited and have already practiced today. Thank you for introducing me to my new favorite hobby! "
Read More"I LOVED the class. Such a fun outlet! I'm feeling excited about putting my new skill to practice and use. Thank you for the personable, patient guidance and instruction."
Read More"Thank you so much for teaching such an excellent class today! You are a natural teacher (and kind hostess!). I really appreciate your attention to detail and setting us up for success."
Read More"I gave myself a birthday present and bought the class, hoping it was well worth the $250. It was worth every single penny. She was patient, she was thorough, she went to each student to helped with the hand positioning, guiding to the right way of writing, easy to understanding, and she was patient. I was sad that the three hours were up, but I left a happy camper!"
Read More"Michele is funny, approachable and so encouraging. One student was lamenting that her work wasn’t as good as Michele’s and Michele responded, “And you just picked up the pen less than two hours ago, right? Give yourself some grace.” She also reminded us to breathe at one point, since we were all working so hard! Such great lessons to remember when you are trying something new."
Read More"I spent a lovely three and a half hours in her calligraphy class and am a huge fan. As an instructor, she is incredibly deliberate. Everything from the physical tools for calligraphy to the tea available to her (clever) puns was well planned and well thought out. She always had more than one way to help a struggling student and, impressively, no one in the eight person class remained frustrate for longer than it took Michele to walk around and correct their arm position or fix their nib."
Read More"I am so happy I signed up for this workshop. This was my first time taking a calligraphy class or workshop of any kind and it was exactly what I was looking for - insight on technique, modern calligraphy style, small class size, constructive feedback. As a first-timer (I believe all 8 students were first-timers), I thought I would be intimidated but Michele is friendly and personable and is a really great instructor."
Read More"Within a few hours, [Michele] helped me to face my fears and demystify this art. Lesson learned: Live the life you imagine! My penmanship is still a work in progress, but as I suspected I would be, I'm very glad I did this. I love writing and this has already become a soothing release for me.
Read More"Cara and I both LOVED the class, and while we’re not master calligraphers (YET!), we’ve been practicing a lot! I highly recommend the class for anyone who is interested in the fine art of calligraphy - it was so informative, Michele was such a great and enthusiastic teacher, and we just had FUN! You leave the class with all of the supplies you need to start out, and hope that one day you’ll be able to make a pretty sign for your office wall (ok, maybe that’s just me…)."
Read More"Do I stand before you all now an expert of calligraphy, ready to quit my job for freelance work? No. But I did see a great improvement in only three and a half hours. My thicks and thins are a little wobbly and sometimes my h’s aren’t as tall as they should be, but for now I will just classify that as a font of my own. I have three more nibs in my arsenal to try out, fall in and out of love with, and try to remember which direction to throw the loops in an “s”. But I’ll get there…eventually."
Read More"The class was absolutely amazing. I learned so much – as did my mom. I want to go back and do it all over again – and recommend that you sign up, if you live nearby (or hey, if you want to travel to DC for a fun trip). Michele takes you step-by-step through the basics, then you get to spend the last 45 minutes practicing. I struggled at work today, as all I wanted to do was go home and pick up my pointed pen and write."
Read More"After the class, I’ve noticed a big improvement in my abilities. I fully believe it was all the one-on-one teaching that Michele does. Not only is she a pretty rad gal, she’s an excellent teacher. I had such a blast and hope to keep practicing calligraphy for a very long time!"
Read More"The chill atmosphere made it easy to get back into the groove of calligraphy and I felt a lot less pressure to perform since it was a smaller group. If you’re in the DC / VA / MD area I highly suggest taking any of Michele’s calligraphy classes. She’s a great teacher and the class is perfect if you want to sharpen the artsy, creative side of you without a huge time commitment."
Read More"Modern calligraphy adds such a gorgeous hand-touch to any event, but it can be pretty pricey to commission work from professionals or pro/hobbyists. I took an introduction to calligraphy class from DC calligrapher at the helm of Meant to Be Calligraphy and gained enough confidence to hand-letter the escort cards. Not to mention they were the perfect anchor for my quasi-favors of hand-crocheted hearts and spades."
Read More"On Saturday I took a calligraphy class with Michele Hatty Fritz of Meant to be Calligraphy. I’ve taken an eight week class focusing on broad tip traditional calligraphy before, but I felt more accomplished and excited with the progress I made in those three too short hours."
Read More"Watching Michele was mesmerizing. She wrote out an alphabet and each of our names to demonstrate the different letter strokes and how to connect them in words, and I thought to myself, "I would pay to watch this." And then I realized, "Oh yeah, I did!" Ha! You know something is pretty good when all you can think about is the opportunity you are getting and not the cost associated with it."
