Loved the Class

From Angelina Photography

"My sister, Cara, and I waited in anticipation.  We were signed up for the March 9th Meant to Be Calligraphy class in DC, and it was only Christmas time.  That’s a REALLY LONG TIME to wait for something so cool…am I right?! I look at wedding photos every chance I get, and I’m constantly searching the web for beautiful wedding designs, which always includes beautiful and sophisticated calligraphy.  When Cara got married a few years ago she wanted her wedding invitations to be written in calligraphy, and after many many (many many) hours, and a nearly broken wrist later, we had beautiful hand-addressed envelopes.  The catch was that we printed each envelope on the printer, and then painstakingly traced each letter using a glass table lit from below.  We swore we’d never do that again, no matter how beautiful they looked.  Flash forward 4 years and it was time for me to address my own wedding envelopes…no way were we doing that again- so this time, we once again printed on each envelope and then quickly covered it in embossing powder.  These too looked beautiful and we were so happy how they turned out, but once again, we swore we’d never do something like that again.  These exercises only gave MORE respect for calligrapher’s and their art.  Cara and I wanted to try it FOR REAL, and this was the perfect opportunity!

Michele Hatty Fritz is the owner of Meant to Be Calligraphy, and she just so happens to be one of the best calligraphers in the country (she’s been published in Southern Living and multiple other well-known publications!), and lives in our town! PERFECT!  We were SO excited to attend her Introduction to Calligraphy class along with 6 other enthusiastic women! We met at the Karson Butler Events Studio in DC, and AH, where do I begin?  This studio, along with its owners, Amber and Emily, were just fantastic!  Amber and Emily greeted us with a smile (and jellybeans…the true way to my heart) as we entered their studio, and I just absolutely fell in love with the lighting and decor in this space.  Can you ladies just design my house, please? Ok, thanks!

Cara and I both LOVED the class, and while we’re not master calligraphers (YET!), we’ve been practicing a lot!  I highly recommend the class for anyone who is interested in the fine art of calligraphy- it was so informative, Michele was such a great and enthusiastic teacher, and we just had FUN!  You leave the class with all of the supplies you need to start out, and hope that one day you’ll be able to make a pretty sign for your office wall (ok, maybe that’s just me…)."
